As part of the 2023/2024 municipal boundary re-determination process, 13 cases affecting 19 municipalities were deferred for further investigation. The MDB has resolved not to re-determine any municipal boundaries at this time. This is in line with Circulars 3 of 2025.
The ward delimitation process has now commenced for the affected 19 municipalities, in preparation for the 2026 local government elections.
• Public consultations began in September 2025.
• Community members are invited to submit proposals on how wards should be configured.
• Deadline for written proposals: 15 October 2025
• Proposals can be emailed to: registry@demarcation.org.za
• The second set of wards (determination) for these municipalities will be published in provincial gazettes in October 2025. Members of the community will have 14 days to submit objections from the date of publication; these will be available on www.gpwonline.gov.za
