In March-April 2023, the MDB published notices in terms of section 26 of the Municipal Demarcation Act (MDA) inviting members of the public to submit views and representations on proposed municipal boundary re-determinations received from members of the public.

Members of the public were allowed a period of not less than 30 days from the date of publication in a newspaper to submit their written views.

The period has since closed and the MDB is currently processing all received submissions. An overwhelming number of +- 13 thousand views have been received.

It should be noted that the process has not been finalised. In line with the process, after the MDB considers the submissions (views and representations), in terms of section 27 of the MDA, the MDB may take a decision on a determination, or before it takes such a decision:

• Hold a public meeting;
• Conduct a formal investigation; or
• Do both.

As soon as the MDB has completed the process of considering the submissions and the Board has taken a decision as indicated above, members of the public will be informed accordingly. Further communication on the schedule and invitations for public meetings, times and venues will be communicated accordingly, in line with the decisions of the Board.

The MDB is delighted by an overwhelming response and interest from members of the published as shown by the huge number of submissions received. This can only show that the MDB is on the right track as it continues to give members of the public opportunities to participate and engage with its processes.
